In a NASA wide exercise an array of robots, spacesuit clad "astronauts" and extreme environment habitat modules converged at Moses Lake. WA for a week long experiment on living/working in the extreme enviornment of the Moon simulation. Prototypes for future moon rovers and space suits are tested at Moses Lake, Washington. The low-slung Crew Mobility Chassis (foreground) can be operated manually or robotically. Behind are two ATHLETEs (All-Terrain Hex-Limbed Extra-Terrestrial Explorers), robots with articulating legs that can carry cylindrical habitat prototypes, as here, or other gear over rough terrain. Each leg has its own motor and can carry and operate tools for drilling or lifting objects.
