McMurdo Station is the largest scientific research station in Antarctica. Approximately 85 buildings are at the station, including repair facilities, dormitories, administrative buildings, a firehouse, power plant, water distillation plant, wharf, stores, clubs, warehouses and laboratories. At or near McMurdo, scientists perform research in astrophysics, biology and medicine, geology and geophysics, glaciology and glacial geology, and ocean and climate systems.
