The MODIS instrument flying aboard NASA's Terra satellite captured this true-color image of Typhoon Meari along the eastern China coast on September 27, 2004 at 02:55 UTC. At the time this image was taken, Meari had maximum sustained winds near 105 knots with gusts to 130 knots. Meari was expected to weaken slightly over the next 24 hours and make a gradual turn to the north. NASA image created by Jesse Allen, Earth Observatory using data obtained from the
MODIS Rapid Response team.
