The Space Shuttle Atlantis completes the 3.4-mile (5.5 kilometer) journey to Launch Pad 39A from the Vehicle Assembly Building. As is typical for a rollout, the trip took place overnight when the possibility of lightning is most remote. The crawler-transporter, with the mobile launcher platform and Shuttle securely on top, departed the VAB around midnight and arrived at the pad about five and a half hours later. Atlantis is scheduled to lift off on Mission STS-74, the second Shuttle-Mir docking flight, in early November.
